Honoring the Day, Questioning the Present
Honoring the Day, Questioning the Present
I have deep respect for all the men and women who fought and died for our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we can gather, celebrate, and speak freely today. I honor our history and the meaning behind this day with all my heart.
But I also believe it's important to speak truthfully about where we are now.
What I don’t respect is the direction our leadership has taken—the harm being done to the Earth, the stripping away of basic rights, and the neglect of the people who need help the most. Food, medical care, and mental health services are being cut while the most vulnerable among us suffer. Our health departments—essential lifelines for so many—are being dismantled piece by piece.
I love this country. And because I love it, I believe we must do better. For the people. For the planet. For the future generations who deserve more than what we’re leaving behind.
